Each year as a child, Nancy Genn spent long summers in Los Gatos California on a family property with rows of fruit trees laden with apricots and plums, whose linear configuration left a lasting impression on the artist who expressed it through calligraphic signs. The orchard is a recurring theme which then develops in mixed media experiments until she conceives a grid printed in the Gather silkscreen series on which Genn intervenes with graphite, colored pencils and soft casein…

“(T)he very recent return to the study of the orchard is of great freshness and emotional impact. Genn's works remind us of Agnes Martin and the disciplined rigor of her grids, as well as of the energetic voluptuousness and expressive freedom of Georgia O'Keeffe. A dreamlike reinterpretation of the Californian artist's childhood which is expressed with layers of soft and transparent colors, ranging sometimes from plum blue to coral red, to soft green and blue gray.”
