“When looking at Nancy Genn's art we understand that a clear-cut awareness of materials' properties inform the artist's work. Materials are central to the different phases of Genn's artistic career: they appear to be chosen carefully to express particular feelings, depending on the ideas to be conveyed. As the Renaissance artist, Genn is very successful in embracing new media and techniques, and throughout her career she has mastered sculpture, painting, ceramics and draftsmanship. Her virtuosity brings the progression one step further when she takes control of the whole process by venturing into papermaking. With Genn's abstract, three dimensional works in handmade paper the medium is revitalized: for once we don't look at paper as the lesser sister of easel painting.”
